RULES

 Issue 1st November 2009
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

RINK RESERVATION

When booking a rink you are reserving a space on the green and committing yourself to the fees, as laid down by the Management Committee.

You are not allowed to book more than 2 weeks in advance for casual play.

CANCELLATION

If a rink is NOT required, then that rink must be cancelled.

In league and competition play it must be cancelled by the home team captain or the home player and in casual play by the person who made the booking.

In the event of non-cancellation the whole fee for a rink of 8 players is payable.

RINK FEES

The fees are required to be available to the steward or appointed person before play begins.

The skips are responsible for collection of fees from their own team and the home skip is responsible for any shortfall of the total rink fees.

The steward or appointed person has the authority to suspend play on any rink where the full rink fees have not been paid.

PREFERENTIAL PLAY

Only National Competitions have preference. Club Competitions have NO preference.

Any rink changes can only be made with full discussion and agreement of the appointed Club

Co-ordinator. Any teams or person involved must be advised with as much notice as possible.

DRESS ON THE GREEN

For all play except in matches and latter stages of competitions, the dress will be white above the waist and grey below.
Only white, brown or grey regulation bowling shoes may be worn.
Guests of members are expected to comply with these dress standards.

RULES FOR COMPETITIONS

The Club will organise competitions annually.

Competition entry forms will be available from the office. The closing date and entry fee to be determined each year by the Competitions Committee.

All competitions up to the semi final stages will be of 16 ends or 2 hours, whichever is the lesser, with the exception of singles which will be 21 shots up. The semi finals and finals will be played as a full game, i.e. 18 or 21 ends as applicable, and will be played in white below the waist, white or coloured shirts.

Green fees will be paid for all stages except the final.

Markers will be allocated for the semi finals and finals of all singles competitions.

All matches will be allocated a rink and matches should be played on the date shown on the competition sheet or arranged earlier by mutual consent. Matches may not be arranged after the allocated date unless a match has been cancelled due to inclement weather, or with the consent of the Competitions Committee. Failure to play on or by the date will result in the offending team being scratched from the competition.

If a competition is rearranged please ensure that the original allocated rink is cancelled.

All trophies to be returned by 1st February of the following year.

Substitutes are allowed subject to Rule 3.

2. ELEGIBILITY

All players must be paid up members of Wellingborough Bowling Club indoor section

The prescribed entrance fee shall be payable on entry.

3. SUBSTITUTES

A substitute may play in any position except skip.

In mixed competitions the substitute must be of the same sex.

One and the same substitute is allowed in all competitions, except singles.

Only a member who has not entered the competition is eligible to act as a substitute. (For clarification, once a person has entered a competition they may not act as substitute even if, for any reason, they do not play in that competition.)

4. ORDER OF PLAY

No trial ends will played except in the semi finals and finals.

All competitions will commence after the starter bell, toss for the jack and will end after the finish bell, or the prescribed number of ends, whichever is sooner. Once the finish bell has sounded no more ends may be played, except that in the event of a tie, an extra end will be played.

The winner of the end may not give the mat and jack to their opponent, except in the Club Championship Singles where the competition will be run under current EIBA/EWIBA rules. All singles matches shall be the first to 21 shots, if over 2 hours, consideration must be given by anyone waiting to play on the rink.

Where a jack has been delivered so that it comes to rest outside the boundaries of the rink or less than 23 metres from the front of the mat and the finishing bell sounds before it has been redelivered by the opposing lead, the jack will be placed on the 2 metre mark and the position of the mat will be determined by the opposing skip. In no circumstances shall it be permissible for the jack to be delivered after the finishing bell.

If in the course of play the jack is driven out of bounds, the end shall be played in the opposite direction; the end shall not count and no penalty shall be imposed.

No 3’s  in fours, and No 2’s in triples shall play up with the skips.

No player may remain at the head whilst the opposing player plays their first bowl. No player may visit the head, except in the semi finals and finals.

In the semi finals and finals it is permissible for a player to visit the head between bowls.

5. TEAM KNOCKOUT

The team knockout will be played under normal league rules.

All teams registered in the Early and late mid-week leagues will be entered into the knockout. There will be no entrance fee.

All rounds must be played on the set date or arranged earlier by mutual consent. Matches may not be arranged after the allocated date unless a match has been cancelled due to inclement weather, or with the consent of the Competitions Committee. Failure to play on or by the date will result in the offending team being scratched from the competition.

All rounds will be of 16 ends or two hours, whichever is lesser. In the event of a tie an extra end will be played.

Each team will be allocated a handicap in accordance with their league. This handicap will be set by the Competitions Committee.

6. LATE START

If a team is not present on the rink 10 minutes after the prescribed starting time, it shall be in default and the game conceded.

7. DISPUTES

Subject to these rules it is intended that matches shall be played in accordance with the Laws

of the Game as adopted by the EIBA/EIWBA.

Any disputes or queries shall be referred as soon as possible to the Competitions Committee or     the Indoor Committee, whose decision will be final.
